Dr. Marianne Dennis continues a 20+ year nursing career, most recently as an Inpatient Behavioral Health Staff Educator. This allows her to enjoy creating curriculum and group content that is educational, entertaining, and regulation-compliant. She is a certified instructor of Handle with Care Behavior Management System, Verbal De-escalation, Trauma Informed Care, Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR), Practical Reiki for Healthcare Workers, and the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support for Healthcare Workers.
After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 35, Dr. Marianne began to pursue metaphysical interests more vigorously. She became a Reiki Master Teacher and Instructor of Practical Reiki for Healthcare Workers, an Ohio Board of Nursing-approved course. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Metaphysical Science from the University of Metaphysics. She later received her Doctorate in Conscious-Centered Living from the University of Sedona. Living a conscious-centered life removes the question of “WWJD” by being aligned with your inner being and higher mind. You are not only innately attuned to the right thing to do in every situation but also have the mindfulness and insight to act upon that knowledge. This has enabled her to bring a more intentional mindfulness approach to crisis situations and allows her to guide others in this approach. Another benefit of a metaphysical approach to mental and behavioral health that Dr. Marianne utilizes is the ability to acknowledge more treatment options and modalities to utilize with medication or for those choosing a non-pharmacological treatment plan, medical and psychological.
In August of 2016, The Village E.C.P. 501c3, a youth organization, was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas. While on a travel nurse assignment, Dr. Marianne immediately aligned with the mission and vision and began volunteering her time and resources. She has since become the Spiritual Counsel for The Village, a national organization touching six states and counting. She enjoys assisting the organization, the youth, and the families it serves in a metaphysical capacity. This has included her Align’ n Grind Prison Program. She sends letters to those incarcerated that include affirmations, meditations, and teachings. Not only is this the first experience with metaphysical teachings most of these youth and their families have, but while they are in prison, this allows them to expand their consciousness, restructure their mindset, and help reduce recidivism after reentry into society. They can learn to align with their inner being and higher consciousness while grinding out the time they must serve.
As a travel psychiatric nurse, she embraced the opportunity to work in many different inpatient and behavioral health facilities and outpatient clinics across the United States. This allowed her to gain insight into the unmet needs of the front-line group facilitators. She understands the frustration of having the degree, the expectation, and the desire but not having the effective resources. Also, understanding the importance of individualized care but having to use generic materials contradicts this. While working in behavioral health management, Dr. Marianne realized those in leadership positions did not have options for effective resources.
With the understanding that lack of beneficial curriculum is an industry-wide issue, she collaborated and wrote the facilitator manuals and curriculum content for In the Field with Captain-Save-a-Hood, a social-emotional learning comic book and curriculum, now being utilized in mental & behavioral health inpatient and outpatient facilities, classrooms and after-school programs, summer camps and parks programs, educational workshops, juvenile justice facilities, community centers, and homes. She has begun to collaborate with In the Field Consulting, L.L.C., by creating several prison reentry programs, providing corporate education, and work culture consultations.
Settled in beautiful Arizona, Dr. Marianne spends time with her family: 2 pit bulls, her two daughters, her son-in-law, three grandchildren, and her brother. She is currently attending A.S.U., pursuing degrees in African & African American Studies, Behavior Analysis, and Non-Profit Management. Dr. Marianne continues to enjoy traveling and learning.
“Understanding that nothing ever goes wrong in my life, I approach every aspect of life with a most benevolent outcome and highest mutual benefit mindset. Understanding that each interaction is divinely appointed, I have learned to enjoy and love the journey. It is exciting when you touch a single life, but in creating programs, curriculum, and teaching, the expansiveness is infinite.” Dr. Marianne Dennis, PhD, RN.
