Hidden Secrets of Christ’s Teachings, Part 2: Over the course of his lifetime of service, Dr. Masters presented a large number of inspirational lectures during his Sunday services. Almost all of them began with a meditation or healing treatment, after which he presented a teaching that included a set of affirmation statements.
In this lecture, Dr. Masters continues to explain how there are two types of teachings in Christianity: the outer teachings, which most people are familiar with; and the inner teachings, which Jesus taught only to the disciples. The inner teachings are those of a more mystical nature.
For example, it is easy for people to understand the idea of being literally baptized in water. But John the Baptist said that “He that cometh after me shall baptize you with fire.” He does not mean “fire” literally, of course. It is symbolic. It refers to a more mystical sense of baptism, in which the spiritual energy within oneself is ignited in higher states of consciousness.
Another example involves one of the most important teachings of Jesus, and begins with a reference to reincarnation. Although reincarnation is something that is discounted in traditional Christianity, Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” They answered, “Some say John the Baptist; some Elias; others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.” Clearly, at that time there was common acceptance by the disciples of the concept of rebirth. But the mystical answer to Jesus’ question came from Peter, who said, “Thou art the Christ.”
The concept of “Christ” has an inner meaning not understood by the masses. It refers to the fact that within everyone there is a point of consciousness—a Christ Mind—where the personal self and the Presence of God are one. It is a state of consciousness in which Jesus dwelled continually.
This mystical teaching about the “Christ” is so important, Jesus replied to Peter that “Upon this rock I will build my church,” meaning that the true church—the holy temple within us all—is built upon this essential truth of Christ Consciousness.
In the rest of “Hidden Secrets of Christ’s Teachings, Part 2,” Dr. Masters goes on to reveal more examples in the Bible where there is both an obvious outer teaching by Jesus, and a hidden inner teaching.
